Chelsea Flower Show is always an exciting time for gardeners, growers, florists, landscapers, vegetable lovers and anyone with an appreciation for nature’s beauty.
Every year seems to surpass the last, and this year was no exeption…
Having been a florist for 20 years and a regular CFS attendee for 30 years, Jackie Brooks was the perfect lady to test out a pair of our sandals, and see how they’d hold up after a long day browsing and admiring what this year’s show had to offer.
Jackie wore Gabor Karen 42.824.50 ; a beautiful white leather wedge sandal, with a bold silver buckle on the ankle strap.
Now, those of you who have been to Chelsea Flower show before will know. This event is BIG! There is so much to see, which also means so much risk of that horrible ‘soles on fire’ thing I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, but Jackie explained that she was genuinely surprised at the comfort level. The leather lining and cushioned foot bed will help this, but walkability scored high on the scale as well, especially for a first time wear. For a lady who runs her own floristry business, Jackie appreciates the absolute importance of comfort and wearability, but also wanted to look relatively smart/casual for this event, and Gabor Karen 42.824.50 worked perfectly.
Jackie wore them with cropped white jeans and a sweet printed blouse and mentioned that she now wants them in a different colour too…Luckily for Jackie, we also stock them in tan!
If you didn’t get the chance to go this year, take a look at some of Jackie’s highlights…
Tickets and Gianni Conti 913206 bag at the ready…
Meet Jackie’s Mum, fitting in with the display perfectly!
Bright and vibrant colour palettes were in abundance this year, demonstrated in carnival style headdresses and a huge peacock.
The biggest Dubarry boot we’ve ever seen
Gold Medal for comfort and style!

A big thank you to our many customers who have taken the time to leave a review on our website. We pride ourselves on our customer service and it is so rewarding to hear what our customers have to say. Here are just a few of those reviews:
“My very first order from you and cannot fault the service. Next day delivery and very good communications throughout. I am delighted that I have found a pair of Orla Kiely Milly shoes and they fit perfectly. Thank you very much!”- Clarks ‘Orla Milly’
“I have been looking for espadrilles like these forever! I’m so happy I found this website. Not everyone can wear 3″-4″ wedges and I’ve been so frustrated that EVERY pair of espadrilles I looked at were either 4″ or flat!!!! These are perfect, fit great-look great and I know as soon as it warms up (if it ever does) I will be living in them this summer.”- Toni Pons ‘Nuria’
“Was very easy to order online and by telephone, and the shoes were delivered very quickly and were exactly like they appeared online. Highly recommend this website.” – Primigi ‘Andes’
“Well organized, clear website, helpful sales people, reliable. Will buy again from The Golden Boot.”- R.M Williams ‘Comfort Craftsman’
“Hunter Basket Weave Welly Socks – had been searching for a pair of these for ages. Was delighted when found them on this site. Received so quickly and well packaged.
Thank you.” – Hunter ‘Kids Welly Socks’
“I love my patent blue Wonder shoes with a crepe wavy sole – perfect to go with my new silk skirt and comfortable enough to wear all night on the dance floor. Can’t wait to go out on that date!”- Wonders ‘6956 Barcelona’
“I had Nordika slippers already but they had seen better days so I ordered a replacement pair from The Golden Boot. The slippers arrived very promptly within the hour delivery slot. Will definitely use The Golden Boot again for other footwear purchases.” – Nordikas ‘Natala 234’
“I pondered about using this company as I hadn’t heard of them before but I was so desperate to get my hands on a pair of Toni Pons ( my very favourite summer shoes) I decided to give it a go. The person that I spoke to on the telephone was both charming and helpful so I ordered some shoes. I telephoned the shop at 1.22 pm and had my shoes by 9.05am the next morning. So, I just had to order some more! I had exactly the same efficient experience as before. My only regret is that this could get costly as there are still lots more Toni Pons in colours that I don’t yet have. I have already recommended this shop to friends. ” – Toni Pons ‘Nuria’ and ‘Tremp’
“My wife wanted a pair of house shoes as a present and found them on the Golden Boot site, slightly cheaper than from a competitor, so I ordered them, gift wrapped at no extra cost. She is delighted with them, and I was delighted with the prompt service. The free gift wrapping option was a really nice additional touch. Well be back!”- Nordikas ‘Nicola 305’
“Ordered the boots over the phone and these were despatched quickly and with no fuss. Would purchase again from this company.” – Barbour ‘Readhead’
“a very good web site with all the relevant information of sizing and choosing the right pair of shoes, very good choice with easy payment choices.
The communication for order confirmation delivery service excellent will definately use the Golden Boot again .”- Peter Kaiser ‘Lurkezia’
Your thoughts and comments, both good and bad, are invaluable to our business so please keep them coming!
Lanzarote 63700 toe post mule is back by popular demand for Spring/Summer 2013!
This is one of our biggest selections so far with 14 different colours to choose from. The classics black, white and silver are still in great demand but we are finding our customers are wanting to brighten up their summer wardrobes with the more zesty oranges and greens.
Gabor Lanzarote orange nubuck
Gabor Lanzarote green nubuck
Once again, this style is hard to beat for comfort. The ‘Best Fitting’ insole is broader than average which means your foot can spread naturally when you walk. Underfoot cushioning and support is guaranteed. Also with it having a flexible leather or suede upper giving good foot coverage, you haven’t got the problem of straps irritating your feet when its hot! Don’t be put off by the toe post either, it really feels soft between the toes.
This really is a fantastic summer mule and as we stock it all year round, there’s no need to panic if you are taking an early or late holiday !
Also, take a look at Katie talking about Lanzarote in our SS13 Gabor Lanzarote Toe Post Review video.
Try a pair, you’ll be hooked!
Our staff here at The Golden Boot change their ‘uniform’ colour each season. And as the gloomy weather and long winter had really dampened everyone’s spirits, it was decided that the chosen colour for summer 2013 would be orange!
It has really brightened everyone up and it blends so well with our floral themed displays instore.
This zesty orange sandal sits on a cork wedge so is really comfy to wear. Fastening with a chunky buckle it feels secure on the foot too
A classic pump that Gabor does so well. Cute style in a lovely two tone finish that looks great skirts and trousers.
We are all geared up for the summer, all we need now is for the sun to shine!
As I write this I am on a plane to Milan to visit the international shoe fair, Micam.
Walking into The Rho Pero Showground
My first stop at Micam will be the Gabor stand. It will give me an opportunity to see if they have added any new developments or if I have missed any key styles.
Gabor is very often one of my first buys for the Autumn/Winter 2013 collection as they show their collections very early.
For Autumn/Winter 2013 I have decided to offer a very strong collection of boots from Gabor. They are extremely good value for money and exceptional quality. I have focussed on their more traditional silouttes as I feel this is what Gabor do best. Take a classic riding boot like 71.636 Gatsby, looks great in black leather but will look Wow! in the navy suede/tan leather combination as shown.
I was also really please to the re-introduction of the Gabor Hovercraft sole unit into the boot collection. For those who love the Gabor pumps that incorporate this sole unit like Glitz 64.235 and Crosby 64.234 you will love 72.074 Irma, Gabor only have this available in black nubuck but I am hoping they will make it for us in black leather, watch this space!
Gabor always have a very strong range of pumps, and Autumn/Winter 2013 is no exception and a number of styles continue. The real success in the Gabor pump range is the Hovercraft sole unit so I have added a few great options here, 74.160 Roxie, 74.163 Pleasure and 74.161 Sandie.
If you haven’t tried a pair of Gabor pumps with this cushioned Hovercraft sole unit you are missing out, just ask any member of our sales team as they all seem to favour them for work wear, no more tired feet!
As soon as the new Autumn/Winter styles start arriving we will display them on our Gabor web page. We start taking deliveries as early as June!
Anyway a little food thought but we really must start thinking about Summer and sandals and I need to start thinking about buying our Spring/Summer 2014 collection!
We want to give you a sneaky look at SS13 Gabor range.
Gabor are a quality shoe maker that places a huge emphasis on how their shoes fit. They are also available in full and half sizes. Gabor class themselves as a lifestyle brand, in short they offer a range of shoes that fits in with every part of your day to day life.
We view the Gabor range at several locations, firstly we see their first collection at their UK head office in Stockton and then we will see a secondary collection at the GDS world shoe fair in Dussledorf, Germany. The Gabor stand is always a pretty impressive sight.
Gabor always have some really ‘stand out groups of shoes’, often we feel they can’t be bettered by other brands for style, quality and price. We tend to focus on this product area for the season. For example this AW12 it had to be their range of classic riding boots, styles like Verano and Pompey are extremely well presented boots, offering Chamois leather linings and clever calf adjustment and both well under £200, you won’t find better!
For SS13 Gabor’s stand out product group were pumps. Gabor Amy and Aggassi are Gabor staples so when they announced that for SS13 they were discontinuing Aggassi we were a little concerned, however I am delighted to introduce Age 64.101
The true essence of a pump is a Ballerina pump with little to no heel. We find allot of our customers want a bit of a heel, this is why Aggassi and Amy are so popular. The clever thing with Age is that they have concealed the heel counter within the innersole, it therefore offers a good heel but looks like a proper Ballerina pump. For SS13 you will find Age in some great colours and materials.
One of our most successful Gabor styles is Glitz 64.235. You will be pleased to know that this continues and white has been added. The main feedback about Glitz has been the comfort, customers love the Hovercraft sole unit its amazingly cushioned and durable.
For SS13 we are running a number of Gabor pumps on this comfy sole unit, our favorite being Ibizia 64.162. Available in black and red patent this is a stand out style. The upper incorporates a perforated design and a pretty bow detail. Keep an eye on this style as I think it will fly!
You have a lot to look forward to this coming SS13 from Gabor but we just wanted to show you a few highlights. Keep an eye on our website as we will upload new arrivals as soon as we unpack them.
Van Dal have introduced a very clever range of little accessories which can add a little sparkle to your classic court shoes.
The pretty shoe clips are simply attached to the front of the design with a clip that is very similar to a clip on earring fastening.
At The Golden Boot we stock three Van Dal shoe clips and here are some suggestions on how to wear the jewel trims.
Gabor Bali in black patent is a pretty court shoe. The wider fitting shoe has a small kitten heel and almond toe making it a very elegant but simple design. We think that Van Dal Alicia would be a perfect match to Gabor Bali. The black satin tailored bow is trimmed with tiny diamantes along the centre.
Geox Marian in black leather is a classic court shoe with patented breathable technology which keeps feet at a healthy temperature. The platform sole makes the high heel a little easier to wear and Van Dal Mia would compliment the Geox shoe perfectly. Mia is a chunky trim made from jet crystals .
Van Dal Ilminster in Navy leather is a very smart court shoe with a square shaped toe. The shoe is an EE wide fitting and to add a little glamor to the style you could use the Tatiana trim. The silver beads suit the navy leather and shimmer in the light.
The First pair of Chelsea boots were designed by Joseph Sparkes Hall who was bootmaker to Queen Victoria.
The boot was first made for the famous royal monach in the year of her coronation – 1837, she then became an avid fan of the footwear. The Chelsea boot is a constant classic appearing in our range year after year but for AW12 it has had a massive resurgence in popularity.
Mary Jane’s are the ever popular feminine style that have a strap around the ankle to hold the foot in place.
The traditional style is named after a comic strip character who was always pictured in a pair of patent Mary Jane’s. The lovable character appeareared in the famous Buster Brown series that featured in the New York Herald regularly in the early 1900’s.
Gabor Soria has been a bestseller for us for the past year and it continues into Autumn Winter with some lovely new colours to add to our collection.
Bordeaux features heavily in the Gabor Winter collection and Soria comes in both suede and patent. The wine colour will look great with black and grey and would be an easy way to add a bit of colour to your winter wardrobe. Gabor Soria would be a great work shoe, we have had only positive feedback about the court shoe from previous seasons, it has proved to be comfortable and look great.
