All things bright and beautiful

All things bright and beautiful

Spring is here! Well…it nearly was… I think I managed to drive to the office with my windows down at least once? We are however, still holding out hope for more wonderful sun-shiny weather, so we chose to showcase these beautifully bright and cheery trainers this week. It also gives us a great opportunity to introduce you to a new brand for us here at TGB. Readers, meet Tommy Hilfiger. They’ve taken the shop floor by storm and immediately launched the ladies’ department into full-on summer vibes.

We needed someone equally as bright and cheery to boast the new collection, so we caught up with illustrator and product designer Poppy Partridge. Tucked away along a rainy side street in Tunbridge Wells I see a glowing open doorway, and hear the entrancing sounds of lofi and trip-hop. Freshly brewing French roast hits my nose and I’m in – a pocket-sized creative paradise. Prints and paintings line the walls of the open-plan space, whilst plants and cut flowers add vibrancy and bursts of colour. Smaller items of intrigue beg to be inspected and are meticulously placed on shelves and side cabinets.

Tommy Hilfiger Nubuck Flatform Sneakers

We chat about the creative industry, design and of course, shoes! As a forever-fan of brothel creepers, Poppy immediately fell in love with the pink nubuck flat-form sneakers. The leather is amazingly soft, and the wide fabric laces add real character and nod to past skate shoe-wearing days. Fluorescent characters mark out TOMMY on the textile-edged tongue. She chose to wear them with sweet floral embroidered jeans and a simple tee. She said she especially loved the blazing orange sole and branding details on the back heel.

Tommy Hilfiger WMN Chunky TextileTrainers

Next, we style up something she hasn’t tried before, but is currently absolutely everywhere – the grandad trainer. They’re chunky and extra funky, and certainly not for the faint hearted. I say to put them with anything she likes, so she grabs a vivid pink chiffon dress from her rail – wouldn’t have been my immediate choice, but she does of course, look totally wonderful in it. Despite being a bold choice, this style is surprisingly versatile (and comfortable), they just need to be played and experimented with. Jeans are a safe and logical choice, but they look just so sharp worn with block coloured tailoring and pant suits, or even something soft and floaty. The sporty leather and textile design is brought to life when placed in a contrasting environment.

Tommy Hilfiger Pop Colour City Sneakers

These sherbet lemon Pop Colour City Sneakers are another sweet addition to the Tommy Hilfiger collection this summer. The leather is super soft and supple, making them a fun and easy way of bringing colour to your every day wardrobe. You can’t shy away in these – wear them with prints, sequins or denim – just be brave with your choice and let the bright white sole sing.

Poppy chats about her illustration and her inspiration. I choose my favourite frame from the wall (closely followed by a tribute to the late David Bowie pictured above) and she explains that it’s part of a collection called ‘Sea Sisters’. This particular one depicts a sassy octopus donning a floral swimming cap. She’s currently working on a collection celebrating the wondrously curvaceous female form – to see more visit her Instagram page @poppy.partridge, and for any artwork commissions, contact her directly.
