Exciting things to come at the Golden Boot!

Exciting things to come at the Golden Boot!

We have lots of exciting things in the pipe line at the Golden Boot. Next year will be the 230th anniversary since the ‘Golden Boot’ was first established. We say ‘Golden Boot’ as we are told that our rich history of family shoe makers and traders may even pre-date the naming of our shop in 1790. But, until the celebrations in 2020 can begin, we have an abundance of exciting things happening this year and a much needed re-model of our children’s department is due to take place very soon!

With the extension of our Ladies department into the ‘Old Ship Inn,’ you may have noticed that over the past few years we have made some wonderful changes to our adults departments. I believe that is safe to say they are looking more elegant and sophisticated than ever before.  Meanwhile our Children’s department has been shouting out for some attention; our beloved trains that chug away on a daily basis are in need of an MOT, our fitting stools need re-upholstering and the walls are calling out for a fresh lick of paint! Alongside this, however, we are planning to take our transformation  that one step further. We’re aiming for our children’s department to return to its former glory of being the heart of our store. We’ve all been there during those incredibly busy back to school periods; within the buzz of excited school children trying on their first pair of school shoes, or the older ones admittedly, begrudgingly, preparing for the holidays end! Many of you have been recalling to us stories of bringing your children here to have their first pair of shoes fitted and experiencing those first precious moments of independence. Our new children’s shop will ensure that your shoe shopping experience is EVEN more enjoyable and memorable than ever before. So, watch this space!

To wrap up this announcement, I just couldn’t resist sharing these images of our children’s shop from the years gone-by. Flicking through our archive this week has evoked so many amazing personal memories of my childhood visits  for fittings at the Golden Boot; how could I ever forget the train seats and the electronic foot measurers! Our trip down memory lane confirms that whilst newness is exciting and fresh, it’s never harmful to dabble in some good old moments of nostalgia.

Who remembers Bootleg and those black chunky soles? Above around 1988.
