A very special pair of Loake shoes.

Paul Stewart, a good friend of The Golden Boot is undertaking a massive challenge in August. In 2008 Paul was sent plummeting off a 200ft cliff by an avalanche. The life changing fall injured Paul’s spinal cord and left him paralysed from the waist down.

This August, Paul will attempt his IronSpine Challenge. A 2.4mile swim a 26.2 mile walk and 1 cliff face climb (the mountain that broke him).

Each part of the journey will be the equivalent of an able-bodied person traveling four times the distance Paul will face? a challenge that seemed impossible just four years ago!!

Paul’s goal is to raise £250,000 for the two charities, Spinal Research and Wings for Life. He’s already raised £167,000.

Paul explained to me that one thing he really misses is wearing formal shoes. Since his accident he walks with the aid of splints that support from the knee down. The issue with the splints is they make buying a pair of shoes a little more complicated as the shoe needs to accomodate not only the foot but also the spint. He has found that formal trainers tend to work well however the soft fabric linings tend to get torn by the splint.

With the support of Loake Shoes, Andrew Cory (Sales Director Loake Shoes) and I met Paul on Wednesday morning for a fitting at the Loake shop in Princes Arcade, Piccadilly.

His feet were measured with the splints. The expert Loake shoe fitting team quickly found Loake Powers and Loake Victor that fitted him well.

Loake Shoes very kindly donated Paul a pair of shoes to wear in the evening as Paul had organized a black tie Iron Spine Charity Quiz night, hosted by Jeremy Kyle and food by Mark Hix.

The evening was a huge success and raised even more money for this very worthy course.
