Test 5 – The Heat Test

Test 5 – The Heat Test

For test 5 we thought we would see how our 6 chosen school shoes dealt with extreme temperatures.

The Heat Test

We held a blow torch against the sole of each shoe for 10 seconds. Here is a video of the process…..

In joint first place we have Geox Savage and Startrite Anaconda with the impressive score of 8 out of 10.

As you can see the blow torch had little effect on the sole unit of Geox Savage proving that it’s really tough. The durable sole unit will survive all the skidding around the playground, football and biking that your child can through at the Geox school shoe.

We always knew that Startrite Anaconda was tough but test 5 really put the shoe through it’s paces and it coped brilliantly. The flame had little effect on the sole of the shoe and this is after 4 months of normal school wear.

Bootleg Air Surrey holds a deserved second ranking, the sole unit has melted down a little but there is still a considerable layer of rubber between the foot and the ground. Throughout the four months of normal wear the sole unit coped extremely well and showed little sign of wear.

Startrite Venus was the black horse of this test! We didn’t really expect the thin sole on this shoe to put up with the extreme temperature but it proved us wrong. The sole held out against the blow torch, showing that it can easily deal with life in the playground!

In third place we have Clarks Dolly Glitz which scored 6/10.

Clarks Dolly Glitz is always popular as it has such a delicate sole, this meant that it didn’t fare so well in our blow torch test. As you can see the sole melted down but there is still a covering of rubber over the foot. The sole of Dolly Glitz wore very well during the four months of normal wear.

As you can see the High Street competitor’s product did not perform well in this test. The waffle construction of the sole uses as little rubber as possible to save on costs and the blow torch has burnt right through the sole creating lots of little holes.
