Test 3 – The Upper Test

Test 3 – The Upper Test

We’re now half way through the Golden Boot School shoe testing process and we thought that it is time to test the uppers.

For test 3 we held the leather upper of our 5 school shoes against a stone grounder for 10 seconds. Here is a video of the process.

In first place for test 3 it’s Geox Savage in an outstanding victory with a fantastic score of 9/10. You can see that the rubber toe has prevented any damage to the leather upper of the shoe. The shoe coped tremendously well with test 3 and definitely deserves first place.

In joint second place we have Bootleg Air Surrey and Clarks Dolly Glitz.

With minimal damage to the leather upper Air Surrey did very well in test three. The leather withstood the stone grounder and so would cope with normal everyday school use for sure.

Clarks Dolly Glitz holds deserved second place, the leather upper shows very little damage after the 10 seconds of sanding. The decorative bow across the foot definitely helped but the top quality leather withstood the effects of the stone grounder.

In third place we have Startrite Venus.

Startrite Venus didn’t fare so well against the stone grounder. You can see the lower grey levels of leather beneath the glossy top layer. The stitching and floral design disappeared altogether but still the leather held out and no hole was made.

In fourth place we have Startrite Anaconda.

Again this test is not well suited to the moccasin construction of Startrite Anaconda. The stitched lip around the top of the upper has come undone and worn away. Although the moccasin lip has protected the remainder of the upper from damage.

In last place comes the competitior’s product, the stone grounder has made a hole through the upper of the shoe at the toe.

Look out for three more tests which complete The Golden Boot’s Back to school shoe testing process coming soon.
