Test 1 – The Toe Bumper Test

Test 1 – The Toe Bumper Test

All in all each shoe went through 6 extreme Tests in our lab, test 1 was designed to see just how much pressure we could put on the toe bumper of the shoe.

We held each shoe against a sand belt for 10 seconds, here is a video which shows the process-

† DISCLAIMER: Do not attemt to recreate any of the (or similar) actions executed in these videos, these tests were completed in a controlled environment with appropriate safety measures.

As you can see the results are varied and the scuff bumper on the boy’s shoes made a real difference!

In joint first place for test 1 we have Geox Savage and Bootleg Air Surrey.

As you can see Air Surrey is built to be tough and withstand everything a day at school throws at it. The scuff bumper covers the whole of the front of the leather upper making it a wise choice for aspiring footballers everywhere. The durable rubber sole unit comes right up at the toe for a little extra protection.

We have had great feedback from our customers about Geox Savage, the trainer design is just what boys want and it hard wearing too. The rubber toe bumper offers good scuff protection and ensured that Geox Savage performed extremely well in Test 1.

In second place we have Clarks Dolly Glitz

This was the most surprising entry for test 1. Clarks Dolly Glitz did extremely well, especially for a lightweight Mary Jane style. The pretty style held out well against the sand belt and minimal damage occurred to the leather upper. Considering there is no toe bumper on this style it did fantastically well.

In Joint third place for the toe bumper test we have Startrite Anaconda and Startrite Venus.

We always knew that the moccasin construction of Startrite Anaconda would mean that this test would really put the lace school shoe to the test but all in all it did much better than we expected. This smart style does have a special anti scuff panel which coped well against the sand belt.

Startrite Venus  did well considering there was no toe bumper. Startrite shoes use leather that is dyed all the way through rather than dying just the top leather which helps to conceal scuffing when it does occur, you can still seer some colour pigment even after 10 seconds on the sand belt. Venus is always a good choice, the pretty floral detailing and classic Mary Jane shape make it a popular classic.

And in last place we have the Competitor’s product. You can see that the shoe uses very little leather to cover the almost cardboard like interior layer. The sand belt has made a considerable hole and the rubber sole unit has just disintegrated.

Look out for 5 more test results to be released soon!
