How not to look after your shoes

Last week we had a customer return to store with Anatomic Gels in hand to find an exact replacement.

He had found the shoes extremely comfortable to wear and so just wanted a replacement pair but on finding the same shoes on display he noticed just how worn out and dry the leather of his old shoes looked. It actually looked like they had been bleached by the sun.

He pointed this out to Sharon in our Men’s department who asked, how did you clean your shoes? It turned out that the shoes had never actually been treated with any leather conditioner, liquid polish or protector spray.

This picture is a good example to show the benefits of using a leather cream. Leather like skin needs moisture to retain it’s glossy and smooth finish. At The Golden Boot we do not recommend the use of tinned polish as it contains alcohol which actually dries out leather causing cracks in the uppers. Dasco leather conditioner will instead moisturize the leather and help to maintain the original quality and look of the shoe. The cream comes in a handy tube with a sponge applicator making it a really quick process, and you only have to treat the shoes once every two weeks. It would be worth noting that if you are using the leather cream on more than one colour leather be sure to remove the sponge and apply the cream with a soft cloth as some colour may transfer from sponge to shoe.

A spray of Protector spray would also help to keep the shoes water resistant and prevent any stains and marks on the surface of the leather.

I am very pleased to say that the customer left with a brand new pair of Anatomic Gel New Recife as well as a tube of Dasco Leather conditioner to make sure that his shoes look better for longer and more importantly last for longer.
