Liberty Prints

For S/S12 Clarks have worked in collaboration with the famous Liberty of London Department store.

The Liberty store was founded in 1875, when Arthur Liberty designed and produced the first of  the now famous Liberty printed silks. Renowned for their innovative and eclectic design they were an instantly popular and the brand has become synonymous with luxury and great design. Oscar Wilde even said “Liberty is the chosen resort of the artistic shopper”

Clarks has partnered with Liberty to make use of their famous prints and design a capsule collection for S/S12. The special range uses just one fabric from Liberty’s archival design records which was originally designed in 1966 giving the collection a vintage feel.

The specially chosen Liberty fabric is inspired by Oriental Floral patterns popular in the 1920’s. The fabric appears in a selection of colours including bright blues, warm corals and versatile white and greys. Interestingly the fabrics used have been updated by fashion designer Zandra Rhodes who was born locally in Chatham and studied printed textile design at Medway College.

Clarks Scent bottle is a beautiful vintage feel sandal with cork wedge and peep toe design. The retro style looks great with the Liberty print detail at the ankle. The two buckle fastening is a lovely finishing touch. We really like the coral detailing in the blue option.

The desert boot from Clarks Originals is one of the most iconic designs from the brand with it’s traditional crepe sole and simple two eyelet shape, but this special edition for girls has been given a feminine update. Finished with a gorgeous Liberty floral print, the design has a fresh Summer feel. It will look great with denim for casual weekend wear.
